Rihanna Struggles With Ill-Fitted Dress
Rihanna is extraordinarily talented, but even she has had a couple of wardrobe malfunctions over the years. The singer and actress wore this dress to the 2018 premiere of Ocean's 8 in London. But, it quickly became apparent that the shoulders of her dress were a bit too loose, and they kept sliding down. To combat this, Rihanna simply used her hands to keep the shoulders up and the paparazzi from snapping any inappropriate photos.
This wasn't the only time she's been spotted having trouble with her outfit, but we'll get into the other instances a little further into the list.
Rumer Willis' Cutout Skirt
Actress Rumer Willis is known for her role in 90210. She's also known for having a couple of dress mishaps while walking down the red carpet in recent years. This photo is from the 2014 Elle Women In Music event. The dress is certainly bold, but she must've not noticed that at certain angles, it shows off a bit more than intended. Unfortunately, a couple of photographers did take notice and snapped this photo at a weird angle.
There was also reportedly another event in 2019 that was hosted by Elton John, in which she showed up in a dress that was bare on the backside.
Jennifer Lawrence's Famous Dress Rip
Jeniffer Lawrence caught plenty of attention at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in 2013, and not only because she ended up winning an award for the best leading female actress. As Lawrence got up to accept her award onstage, her blue dress ripped. She carried on and walked up on stage to give her acceptance speech in front of the audience. Talk about not letting anything get to you.
However, this one comes with a caveat because some publications reported after the event that the dress was meant to be in tiers and didn't completely rip when Lawrence stood up.
Margot Robbie's Zipper Incident
While walking down the red carpet for the premiere of 2016's Tarzan, Margot Robbie's zipper accidentally came undone. Luckily the veteran actress was having none of it and continued to smile and laugh the whole thing off. Her costar, Alexander Skarsgård, was also there to help her get the dress zipped back up. What could have been a major mishap quickly turned into an only slightly awkward moment.
The best part about the whole ordeal is how Robbie handled herself in the situation. Instead of being embarrassed, she kept her poise and flipped the situation on its head until her costar could lend a hand.
Anne Hathaway's Prada Mishap
Anne Hathaway is probably one of the most low-key actresses in Hollywood. She usually keeps a low profile, and as such, you rarely see her name in the headlines. However, fans were quick to point out a few flaws in the actress' Prada dress she wore to the 2013 Academy Awards. As you can see in the photo, the seams on the dress make it look like there are no undergarments underneath.
The only other time she was in the headlines for an awkward night at an awards show was when she cohosted the Oscars with James Franco, and let's just say the chemistry wasn't really there that night.
Paris Hilton's Pink Dress Accident
Paris Hilton is no stranger to controversy, so it was just business as usual when she had a simple wardrobe malfunction at her 2014 birthday party. Her pink dress has an awkward cut, which eventually led to a slightly awkward ordeal while she was posing for photographers. The cut shifted a bit, but Hilton simply adjusted the dress and went on with her night as if nothing had ever happened.
At this point, it was something she was used to, as there was the instance of her getting out of a car that had caught the paparazzi's attention once before.
Katy Perry's Butt Tear Moment
Katy Perry was just minding her own business watching the 2017 Oscars with James Corden when this little fiasco occurred. The dress ripped at probably one of the worst places it could, and everyone watching could clearly see the malfunction while Perry was kept in the dark. However, lucky for the talented singer, the 2017 Oscars featured an even larger mishap that fueled conversations for days and weeks to come.
During the night, La La Land was announced as the winner of the best picture award. This was immediately rescinded as people noticed the presenter took the wrong envelope. He had accidentally grabbed the envelope for the best actress, making for a few minutes of awkwardness.
Rihanna's Very Low-Cut Dress
Another fashion mishap from Rihanna came at the 2014 Met Gala. While the superstar wowed the crowd with an understated white dress during the event, the after-party featured a different dress that turned some heads. The back of the gown was open and had a dip that dropped just a bit too low. Everyone on the other side was left with an eyeful of Rihanna's backside, and photographers quickly snapped some photographs.
However, the talented singer didn't let this dissuade her from playing it risky when it comes to fashion. At the following year's after-party, she wore a see-through crop top and leather pants.
Chrissy Teigen's Double Split Dress
Model Chrissy Teigen is used to wearing fashion-forward clothing. It is, after all, her job as a model. However, at the 2016 American Music Awards, she might have been a little too risky when she worked a backless black dress with two cuts on either side that rose pretty high. The look left a single piece of fabric covering the middle portion of her body. As one might've guessed, this led to a bit of an awkward moment.
While posing for photos, the middle of the dress moved and left photographers with a full view of her front side. It also left Teigen looking a little embarrassed in the photo here.
Scarlett Johansson's Red Dress Couldn't Handle the Wind
Scarlett Johansson turned up to the premiere of Sing at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival wearing this dazzling red dress. The only problem was that there was a bit of wind that day, and the bow started blowing in the wind. Now, this wouldn't be a problem for most dresses, but this particular bow happened to cover most of the middle area that the actual dress left bare.
Johansson handled it like a pro, though, and kept the bow from swinging too much in the wind. This also kept the celebrations regret-free for the remainder of the night.
Jennifer Lopez And The Iconic Oscars Malfunction
When Jennifer Lopez was asked to present an award at the 2012 Oscars, many expected it to be another run-of-the-mill presentation. However, it quickly turned into a spectacle as some publications reported that the dress looked like it was coming apart on stage. The stylist who worked with Lopez later said that the dress was not coming apart and that it had just cast a shadow towards the worst possible area to cast a shadow on stage.
Of course, we may never know the truth, but what is for certain is that the slip (or shadow) generated quite the buzz after the Hollywood event was long done and over.
Uncomfortable Heels? Kristen Stewart Prefers to Walk Barefoot
Of all the wardrobe malfunctions on this list, we applaud Kristen Stewart's reaction the most. During a walk along the red carpet at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, Stewart realized something was wrong with her high heels. They were too uncomfortable. So, she simply slid them off and proceeded to walk barefoot down the red carpet. And she might've been one of the only people to ever do so.
The heels were Louboutins, so they were probably pretty expensive, but what's your style worth when you're absolutely uncomfortable walking down a carpet? Apparently, not much to Stewart, and we agree.
Jade Thirlwall's Uncomfortably Revealing Gown
Like many on this list, singer Jade Thirlwall fell victim to a high-cut dress while she was walking down the 2017 Brit Awards' red carpet. While the gown is stunning, it kept slipping out of position, and it's easy to see why as the material looks extremely soft and even a bit slippery. Unfortunately, this led to Thirlwall having to continually try and readjust her dress all night long until she got fed up.
She eventually got tired of the whole ordeal and left the view of the cameras to find a fix. It's a shame because the dress at least looks pretty extraordinary.
Dakota Johnson Nearly Loses Her Shirt Onstage
While Jennifer Lawrence's little debacle certainly showed that the actress could keep her cool under pressure, she has nothing on Dakota Johnson at the 2016 People's Choice Awards. Johnson was called onstage to accept an award when her dress decided suddenly started coming apart at the worst moment possible. The whole thing happened as she went in to give a friend a hug. Luckily for her, someone else was there to hold the top part of her dress together while she accepted the award.
Also, can we just say that giving a speech in front of a building full of people while your clothing is coming apart takes some serious confidence. We probably would have started freaking out and made the situation worse.
Beyoncé Could Hardly Walk
Beyoncé might be known for some of the more famous wardrobe malfunctions to happen in front of a live audience; however, she had another at a gala in 2011. The dress she wore turned out to be too tight for the singer, and she found herself barely able to walk down the red carpet. Of course, her husband was there to lend a hand, but it still must've been tough having to tiptoe to an award ceremony.
It also makes you wonder what the designer thought when they made the dress. It's as if the designer forgot how people actually use their legs to walk.
Jennifer Lopez's Sweat Stains at the Golden Globes
This is probably one of the more stunning dresses on this list, and leave it to someone like Jennifer Lopez to be able to pull it off the way she does. However, there was one tiny problem with the dress when she walked down the red carpet at the 2016 Golden Globe Awards. For some reason, the dress had left no room for error or the possibility that antiperspirants might not work.
Luckily this isn't the worst wardrobe malfunction on this list, and Lopez seemed to quickly shrug the mishap off like nothing ever happened. And if we're being honest, that's the best way to handle these situations.
Behati Prinsloo's Oscar Party Fumble
The 2015 Oscars sure were filled with plenty of wardrobe malfunctions, weren't they? The second one happened when Victoria's Secret model Behati Prinsloo's dress moved in an awkward fashion. Her husband, Adam Levine, spotted the malfunction and put his arm between her and the paparazzi. This was probably the best thing he could do at this time, as simply whispering in her ear or turning her away would've been slightly more awkward.
It looks as if Prinsloo's reaction was spot on as well. She simply laughed the whole ordeal off, and the two continued to enjoy their night at the award ceremony.
Eva Longoria Struggles With the Rain
When the Cannes Film Festival got rained out in 2013, it left a couple of celebrities clinging to their expensive dresses, which then led to a couple of different mishaps. One of the most public came when Eva Longoria attempted to prevent the bottom of her dress from getting wet and lifted it up. She lifted a bit too high, and some photographers took advantage of the situation.
To add salt to the wound, Longoria wasn't wearing anything underneath at the time. Luckily, she laughed off the whole situation and posted on social media the next day poking fun at herself.
Lily-Rose Depp's Cleavage Struggle
Actress Lilly-Rose Depp showed up at the 2019 premiere of The King in London wearing this stunning black and white dress. While the frills certainly matched the theme of the night, they also happened to catch any gust of wind that blew by. This caused the top of her dress to continually adjust, and Depp was forced to hang onto it nearly all night to keep any unwanted photos from being taken.
Ultimately, nothing of the sort ended up happening, and the actress continued to show off the dress throughout the film's premiere that night. She also continued to look exceptionally poised, which isn't really a surprise considering she's the daughter of two stars and is probably used to the spotlight at this point.
Sarah Jessica Parker's (Too) Little Pink Dress
The Sex and The City star Sarah Jessica Parker was caught wearing this pink dress to a London premiere in 2009. It wouldn't be her last wardrobe malfunction, but it probably was the most annoying. The dress was a bit too short, and Parker found herself having to continually pull the dress down all night in front of onlookers and paparazzi eager to snap to catch someone slipping at the event.
Parker never let that dismay her, though and she continued with her night normally, even stopping to pose for photos while she was constantly pulling down the dress. We couldn't imagine having to keep our composure while also getting in a fight with our clothing throughout the night.
Blanca Blanco's Slit Dress
Blanca Blanco's 2017 Oscar's dress certainly caught managed to turn a few eyes. Not only because the dress featured some pretty large shoulders but also because the cut in the dress rose a tad more than it was meant to. The actress may not have noticed, but some photographers certainly did and snapped these photos. She was also wearing a bodysuit underneath the dress, though, so nothing was ultimately revealed.
However, the worst part about the whole ordeal is that it was her friends who texted her during the ceremony to let her know that people were making a fuss about the dress.
Amy Adams Body Hurt From How Tight the Dress Was
Actress Amy Adams is pictured here walking the red carpet at the 2013 Golden Globe Awards. What's also pictured is the somewhat tense look on Adam's face. That's because her dress was so tight-fitting that night that it was hard for her to even walk around. She did stop and pose for photos, but it's clear from the pictures that she wasn't in the most comfortable state of mind during the award show.
Apart from that, the dress actually looks astounding; if only it were a size or two larger, it would have been perfect for the occasion.
Fergie's Zipper Malfunction
Fergie wore this dress to a 2013 event hosted by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association along with InStyle. However, the dress proved to be a bit too small, and it continually came unzipped throughout the event. Though the fashion world seemed to take notice of the fumble, it really wasn't that big of a deal, and somebody eventually helped her zip the dress back up. At least it didn't result in the dress ripping or tearing.
Apart from that, we're really liking the cat-themed dress she donned this night, though we doubt anybody is going to see her in it anytime soon after what happened.
Jennifer Aniston's Summer Dress Didn't Do Well With London's Weather
Jennifer Aniston was spotted wearing this very fitting dress to the premiere of We're The Millers in London in 2013. While the dress is absolutely gorgeous, it was a bit too summery for rainy ole London, and the actress found herself having to continually pull the dress down during the premiere. Luckily this prevented any mishaps from happening, but it was apparent throughout the night that Aniston's wardrobe wasn't giving her the best time.
The premiere went off without a hitch, and the movie continues to be beloved by fans to this day, much like Aniston herself.
Nicole Kidman: Another Victim of the Too-High Slit
Lion was a seriously underrated film when it premiered in 2016. It starred Nicole Kidman, who showed up at the premiere in a sleek, little black dress. However, the dress turned out to be a bit too little, and the actress was stuck trying to pull it down all night. However, she kept her composure while also keeping the dress from turning into a public relations nightmare. She also managed to keep a smile on her face despite having to wrestle with her dress all night.
The film would go on to win multiple awards, and Nicole Kidman would go on to be a Hollywood actress without any eye-grabbing headlines associated with her name.
Zoe Saldaña's Train Trips Her Up
Zoe Saldaña is a pretty underrated actress, in our opinion. However, she has been getting her due as of late, and starring in Star Trek Into Darkness is a pretty big deal. She was spotted wearing this dress to the red carpet premiere in London but got a bit tangled up while posing for the paparazzi. Luckily, her costars were right beside her and offered the actress some aid in front of fans.
The whole ordeal wasn't a big issue, but it did make for a couple of awkward moments at a Hollywood event meant to appear perfect from the outside looking in.
Rachel Wilde Accidentally Exposes Her Underwear
This one is a bit perplexing. During the 2014 National Television Awards, Rachel Wilde was walked down the red carpet posing for photos in her blue gown. However, as you can see from the photo, all was not well, and the split up in the middle of the dress rose a bit higher than intended. Wilde apparently never noticed and continued to walk down the carpet while photographers had a field day.
What's really confusing here is that nobody told her that her dress was catching a little too much attention, but maybe they just thought it was intentional with the look of confidence on Wilde's face.
Charlize Theron's Backless Dress
Backless dresses might be one of the biggest perpetrators of wardrobe malfunctions on this list. This next ordeal happened all the way back in 2000 when star Charlize Theron sported this orange dress at the Academy Awards. The night was going well until it came time to make an appearance at the after-party. It was there that someone ended up stepping on the dress and ripping the lower backside of the gown.
Luckily, another celebrity was on hand to give Theron, and she ended up using a pin to quickly fix the rip. Things could have been a lot worse had photographers been around and taken notice.
Judy Greer's Tailored Dress Fell Apart
This one is a bit sad, all things considered. Judy Greer showed up to the 2012 Oscars ready to dazzle in a Monique Lhuillier dress tailored to her exact fit. However, shortly after arriving, somebody stepped on the dress and sent beads flying across the red carpet. Greer's assistants attempted to patch everything back up, but it was too late, and the night was ruined for the actress.
She has said since then that she was so distraught after the incident that she couldn't give interviews. She was also there to support a movie she had starred in.
Raffey Cassidy Gets Tangled Up
Actress Raffey Cassidy donned this idyllic blue dress to the premiere of Vox Lux at the 2018 Venice Film Festival. While we certainly like the dress, we're not too sure how it managed to get all tangled up on the red carpet. But, Cassidy's costars came to her rescue and helped the young actress get her dress untangled and avoid tripping and falling while walking to the prestigious event.
It must have still been a site to see a bunch of stars frantically trying to untangle a dress in front of hundreds of people at the event, but better that than someone tripping and getting hurt.
Jenny McCarthy's Floral Dress Was Inside Out
This incident is a bit old, having happened in 1997, but it's worth going on this list if only for the situation's absurdity. Jenny McCarthy donned a Valentino dress for the Academy Awards, showing the dress off and posing for photos all night long. While it certainly looks great on her, she complained during an interview that the dress was a bit tight around her chest. This must've caught the attention of the designer, who eventually ran into McCarthy.
When the two met, he informed her that she was wearing the dress inside out. Now, to be fair, we can see why she might've been confused because the gown certainly looks as if it can be worn this way.
Everyone Had to Navigate Around Rihanna's Long Dress
If you've ever watched a Hollywood award ceremony, then you know it's not uncommon to see someone wearing a gown that flows down to the floor and beyond. These are often stunning, but they come with their own set of problems as well. This photo was taken at a gala and appeared to show her costars left wondering where they should put their feet.
Luckily, neither they nor Rihanna seems to be freaking out that they're stepping on what is probably a very, very expensive dress. However, there were a few that drew attention to it after the photo was published.
Virginie Efira's Shoes Kept Coming Untied
The 2019 Cannes Film Festival saw Virginie Efira stumble a bit when the laces on her heels came untied. As you might guess, it's not exactly easy to reach down and retire your shoe when you're wearing what's probably a very expensive dress and high heels. Instead, her boyfriend Niels Schneider immediately stepped in and gave her a helping hand. This one could have ended a bit worse had he not.
She was apparently pretty appreciative because the two were spotted hanging off each other for the rest of the night. But we'd be pretty appreciative in this situation, too.
Sharon Stone's Risky Night
Sharon Stone attended a fundraising gala in France in 2014 wearing this red gown. However, the bottom of the dress had gotten wet, and it resulted in the gown sagging to the point where the holes were almost a little too low. Luckily, this was the extent of the mishap, and the dress didn't sag any lower. Stone also handled it like a professional and acted like absolutely nothing was going awry.
Apart from that, it's not hard to see why she chose to wear the dress. If it had fitted correctly, then it probably would have looked fabulous on her.
Giuliana Rancic's On-Air Gown Fiasco
Another wardrobe malfunction that happened in front of an audience, Giuliana Rancic's ordeal, happened on camera instead of onstage. It was still probably just as unnerving. The presenter was on-air when a zipper on her gown suddenly broke, leaving her with the unenviable task of presenting an award show while trying to ensure people watching didn't get more than they bargained for. Luckily, a costar was around to give her a hand.
Ryan Seacrest jumped in and tried to hold the dress together, even using duct tape to repair the seam. The presentation continued through all the chaos, and everyone showed poise while handling this unfortunate situation.
Ashley Graham's Heels Weren't Made for Walking
Ashley Graham is a talented runway model who is used to walking down the red carpet. And all that experience came in handy at the 2017 Time 100 Gala. The model had stopped to pose for a photo, but when she went to start walking again, her heel was caught in her dress, and it nearly sent her tumbling. She amazingly managed to balance herself long enough to regain her composure.
She then laughed the whole thing off and continued her walk down the carpet. Looking at those stilettos, we're not surprised they managed to punch a hole in her dress, but we are jealous of her athletic abilities now.
Emma Stone's Oscars Slip
Actress Emma Stone was riding high at the time of the 2015 Oscars. In addition to being up for a slew of awards, she was catching praise for her yellow dress. Of course, one tiny mishap was caught by a photographer when Stone was pulling up her dress while walking down the red carpet. The gown's slit wasn't even that particularly high; the photographer just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Despite this, most publications wisely chose to focus on how her dress wowed crowds for its gorgeous look instead of the inopportune photo someone had taken of her.
Jennifer Lawrence's Clumsy Red Carpet Moment
Jennifer Lawrence is known for being a bit of a clutz and has even said so during interviews. So, it wasn't too much of a surprise when her heels got stuck in this bright pink dress she wore to the 2011 Screen Actors Guild Awards. Lucky for Lawrence, another actor was on hand to quickly untangle her stilettos while she used him to balance herself out.
She also handled the situation pretty well and just laughed the whole thing off while her friend worked to get her shoe unstuck. That really is the definition of poise right there.
Ariana Grande's Marilyn Moment
The 2012 Teen Choice Awards were held on an especially windy night in California. So, when Ariana Grande showed up wearing a puffy dress, things were bound to get interesting. Grande spent the majority of the night holding on to her dress and trying to prevent it from flying up into her face. However, the photos do make for a pretty cool recreation of Marilyn Monroe's famous pose under similar circumstances.
Grande was also able to keep her pose for the entirety of the night and continued to laugh it off every time a gust of wind blew by, and she reached for her dress.
Jennifer Garner's Little Black Dress
Jennifer Garner is a seasoned professional when it comes to Hollywood events, but she has never had a wardrobe malfunction while walking the red carpet, at least until this happened. Garner was at the premiere of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day in 2014 and talking with Steve Carell when a gust blew half her dress to the side. However, she handled the whole situation with poise.
Garner simply laughed and went on about her business, which, as we've seen, is the best way to handle a situation like this. She even kept giving interviews as the night went on.
